I heard of the law of attraction when I was about 19 years old and I believed in it instantly. It just made sense to me: “like attracts like”. Can there be more sensible rule? In fact, the law of attraction and science are the only things I believe in.


But my problem is that, so far, I haven’t been consistent in using it. Positive affirmations have always come to me in waves – I was being positive for a few days/weeks and then somehow lost my motivation to keep it up.

When we were living in London we had a very hard time, like expats usually do – long working hours, busy weekends, uncomfortable room in noisy apartment, etc. To cheer me up, Bartosz bought me The Magic by Rhonda Byrne (English version). I started reading it whenever I could (which means I mainly read it on bus or tube while going to or back from work). Fortunately, the book’s language is easy so I didn’t have to put too much effort into understanding what I was reading.

The Magic motivated me to start practising gratitude on a daily basis. I've got to admit I didn't do the gratitude excercises which are given at the end of each chapter (too lazy for that) but started saying thanks and feeling gratitude much more often than before.

What I could instantly see was change in my mood – instead of being tired and grumpy, I felt stronger and calmer. Also, if I started my day by practising gratitude and reading the book, my day went more smoothly and I was in better mood throughout the day.


So, after a couple of months I learnt that we could return to Poland! The best news ever, yippee! In general, things started getting better but, as usual, I stopped practising gratitude after a while and our road got bumpy again.

Now, I’m ready to continue using law of attraction every day, for the rest of my life! What I want to do is:

  • Be aware of my negative self-talk and beliefs
  • Replace them with positive affirmation
  • Make positive thinking my daily habit

I’ve got loads of things to say thanks for but I do want to practise gratitude calmly, not treat it as another obligation. In order to make it pleasant part of my everyday life I just want to take it easy and adjust it to my current situation. So, for the time being I settle for one main affirmation which I’ll focus my energy on: " Thank you for the fact that I do in my life what I like and have loads of money ".


This is a super-duper affirmation: I give thanks and use present tense. These two tricks make the affirmation more effective. I don’t want to say “I’d like to do in my life what I like”. This statement suggests that I don’t have it right now and I make the lack of it stronger. Do I want to focus on the fact that I don’t do what I like in my life? I want to attract the occupation which will give me happiness and fulfilment. The more certainty and gratitude I’ll put into my affirmation, the faster and bigger the effect will be.

I’m on it! I believe Rhonda who writes: " The more gratitude you feel when counting your blessings, the happier you feel and the faster your life changes ".

I’ll also do my best to be aware of any negative thoughts slipping into my mind – this will help me to replace them with my affirmation.
I guess that after several months I’ll add or change my affirmation. Maybe I’ll be thanking for having my dream house in the village? Or perhaps I’ll focus on having more inspiring travels all over the world? I’ll see about that.

I do hope the magic will happen 🙂 I’m looking forward to the negative thoughts gradually disappearing from my mind and my life getting even more wonderful than it’s now. To complete my post I decided to quote one of Buddhist teachings which perfectly sums it all up: all that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become .
